In first start, he’s Johnny Manz-‘L

Including the 1997-2013 seasons in The Post, Cat’s record in print stands at 501-424 (54 percent) against the spread.

Bengals (+1) over BROWNS: Cat has long strived to avoid being snared by extraordinary popular delusions, the madness of crowds and hysterical public presumptions — including the concept that Johnny Manziel will lead the Browns to the promised land in his initial NFL start. Those taking these stands may be right — but they’re almost certainly way too early. Bengals are 4-1 straight-up as ’dogs this year. It’s Cincy (+1), for one unit, maintaining the whip hand in the AFC North.

Cowboys (+3 ½) over EAGLES: Seriously contemplating Dallas in December under the current Cowboys commanding officers gives Cat conniption fits, but this is quick revenge for mortifying bad loss in AT&T just two weeks back. Eagles dominated there, but were chippy and cheap in the process, and Cowboys will be ready for their tactics. Philly will need huge passing game to win, and not sold it’ll get it. It’s the ’Boys (+3 ½), for one unit.

LAST WEEK: 1-1. Seahawks (plus one unit). Chargers (minus one unit).

SEASON: 17-15
