Deranged man arrested after chasing commuters around subway

A deranged homeless man chased several straphangers around a Manhattan subway station Tuesday trying to throw them onto the tracks, police sources and witnesses said.

The vagrant harassed commuters as they waited on the 6 train platform at the 110th Street station in East Harlem at 8:30 a.m. and threatened to shove several people onto the tracks.

When he appeared to want to make good on his threats by actually lunging toward several people, a witness called 911.

“A customer came over and said that somebody was trying to push someone off the track,” said a station agent who was alerted to the disturbance by another .

None of the riders was injured as they scurried away from the unidentified man, who was quickly arrested and taken to the 23rd Precinct station house, where he refused to cooperate with police.

He was then taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after sticking out his tongue and shouting gibberish at reporters outside the station house.

Police still had not identified or charged the man as of Tuesday evening.
