Knicks’ Quincy Acy battling strained right wrist

While the Knicks have had their share of serious injuries, one that has flown below the radar is the strained right wrist of power forward Quincy Acy. According to a source, he recently had a cortisone shot to relieve the pain.

Acy started at power forward in Minnesota on Wednesday but still is having trouble catching passes because of the wrist. He committed three turnovers — all on fumbling the ball, yet notched eight rebounds and nine points in 32:18. He has been ailing since preseason.

The defense-first Acy has started five of the 10 games he has played in but with Andrea Bargnani probably making his season debut Saturday, it remains to be seen what coach Derek Fisher will do at the ever-evolving power forward position. Fisher started Bargnani in the preseason opener before he strained his hamstring.

Jason Smith hasn’t been stout enough on defense but is nailing mid-range jumpers to the tune of 49.9 percent. Acy, acquired by Knicks president Phil Jackson from Sacramento, has already missed three games because of the wrist. Fisher has already started four players at power forward: Acy, Smith, Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony.
