New app makes sure you’re having consensual sex

A new app aims to solve the problem of date rape and sexual assault by making consent as easy as pressing a button.

The Good2Go app is free on both iPhone and Android devices and requires your potential sexual partner to answer a few questions before you have sex.

They will be asked, “Are we Good2Go?”

Slate reports that there are three possible answers: “No thanks,” “Yes, but we need to talk,” or “I’m Good2Go.”

After a response has been selected, they hand the phone back to you and you get to see what they have selected.

“No thanks” means there’s no consent, so there’s no sex; “Yes, but we need to talk” means they have some questions they want to ask; and “I’m Good2Go” means there’s an all-clear — after, that is, the partner inputs a self-assessment of how intoxicated they are.

If “Pretty wasted” is selected, the answer to “Are we Good2Go?” automatically switches to “No thanks.” The app maintains that you can’t consent if you are “pretty wasted.”

However, if “Sober,” “Mildly intoxicated” or “Intoxicated but Good2Go” are entered, then it will ask for the person’s phone number so it can confirm their identity and the couple is ready to have sex. (The person’s phone number is not stored in the partner’s phone but just used to confirm identity.)

Lee Ann Allman, a creator of the app, said she was inspired to make it after talking with her university-age kids about sexual assault and noticing how confused they were.
