8 tracks that should be on Tom Coughlin’s playlist

The Giants picked up their first win of the season Sunday following the revelation that Coach Tom Coughlin allowed the squad to listen to music during their stretching sessions at Friday’s practice. When asked what kind of tunes, quarterback Eli Manning — who has been vocal about his love for ‘N Sync — joked that they stole music from Coach Coughlin’s iPad:

“You know, early ’90s rap.”

Although we know the G-Men played Notorious B.I.G’s “Hypnotize” and “Danger” by Mystikal, here are eight other hip-hop classics we hope the 68-year-old general would have on his playlist.

Warning: Some songs may contain graphic content

‘NY State of Mind’ by Nas

Most likely mistakenly downloaded when looking for Billy Joel’s version.

‘I Wish’ by Skee-Lo

Coughlin probably would have downloaded this ode to longing at the start of last season — wishing not to be taller but simply to win. After all, the Jints began with an abysmal record of 0-6.

‘U Can’t Touch This’ by MC Hammer

We like to think that when Coach Coughlin goes home at night, he gets comfortable by slipping into a pair of satin harem pants.

‘Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang’ by Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg

When you’re the fearless leader of the G-Men, this is a requisite rap to include on your playlist.

‘Bring the Noise’ by Public Enemy

Chuck D may have worn an Oakland Raiders starter jacket, but Coughlin would be seduced by Flavor Flav’s fashion sense. After all, the coach is a notorious stickler for promptness — and nothing says being on time like having a huge clock around your neck.

‘Boeheim Anthem’ by King Vega

This assumes Coughlin has an obscure ode to Syracuse head men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim. The ’Cuse icon was his resident advisor during his senior year at Syracuse University, and the two old-school drill sergeants have remained friendly.

‘Football on Your Phone’ by Eli and Peyton Manning

What self respecting rap and pigskin fan wouldn’t have this DirectTV ad in their personal archive? Coach Coughlin has been a staunch supporter of his charge Eli Manning on the field — and, we’d like to think, a musical mentor off the field.

‘Mama Said Knock You Out’ by LL Cool J

Although Tom Coughlin has been known to drop an F-bomb (ahem, Greg Schiano), the devout Catholic cuts a very staid figure off the field — and this pugilistic hit is packed with anger and no curses to go with his straight-laced ethos.

Plus, he seems like the type of guy who would always listen to his Mama.
