National Organization for Women says Goodell should resign

While the National Organization for Women is calling for the resignation of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell over his handling of the Ray Rice domestic abuse controversy, the league’s corporate sponsors are reluctant to cut ties.

So far, the strongest corporate response came from PepsiCo: “Domestic violence is completely unacceptable.”

PepsiCo is an NFL sponsor five times over — Frito-Lay, Gatorade, Pepsi, Quaker Oats and Tropicana — and has a female CEO, Indra Nooyi, who ranks among the world’s most powerful women.

General Motors supports the NFL’s commissioning “a comprehensive, independent investigation” of the case — then promised to monitor it.

FedEx echoed GM in its response, saying it’s also “watching developments in this matter” yet remains “confident that the League will take the appropriate steps.”

Anheuser-Busch seems so certain the brouhaha will pass it has no “plans to issue a statement.”
