Xiao Liwu, a male giant panda, checks out his birthday cake - actually ice topped with a big ice “2” and filled with favorite treats including apples, carrot and yam slices - as he turns two years old Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the San Diego Zoo. Xiao Liwu's (pronounced sshyaoww lee woo) four-foot-tall, 100-pound cake was made by the Zoo’s nutritional services team. Xiao Liwu appeared to specifically enjoy the pieces of sliced apples, carrots and yams atop the cake, then patiently waited for the ice to melt so he could eat the fruit frozen into the ice tiers. The San Diego Zoo is home to three giant pandas: Xiao Liwu, his mother, Bai Yun and father, Gao Gao. Giant pandas are on a research loan to the San Diego Zoo from the People’s Republic of China. Vehicles are inundated in several feet of water in a parking structure on the UCLA campus after flooding from a broken 30-inch water main under nearby Sunset Boulevard inundated a large area of the campus in the Westwood section of Los Angeles, Tuesday, July 29, 2014. The 30-inch (75-centimeter) 93-year-old pipe that broke made a raging river of the street and sent millions of gallons (liters) of water across the school's athletic facilities, including the famed floor of Pauley Pavilion, the neighboring Wooden Center and the Los Angeles Tennis Center, and a pair of parking structures that took the brunt of the damage.
