Holmes expects ‘two more years’ with the Jets

Wide receiver Santonio Holmes walked out of the Jets locker room Monday, perhaps for the final time, carrying a garbage bag filled with his belongings.

Holmes is under contract through 2015, but he will likely be released in the coming months. His salary cap number is $10.75 million for 2014 and the team can save $8.25 million against the cap by releasing him. Holmes finished an injury-filled 2013 season with just 23 catches for 456 yards and one touchdown.

As Holmes exited the locker room, he was asked if he expects to be back next year.

“I have a contract for two more years,” he told The Post.

When it was pointed out that does not always mean much in the NFL, he reiterated: “I have a contract for two more years.”

Safety Ed Reed reiterated he would like to play again next season and would like to return to the Jets.

“I know I’m going to be ready to play football next year,” Reed said.

The 35-year-old spent the final seven games of the season with the Jets and was praised for his contributions by the coaches. He recorded his third interception of the season in Sunday’s win over the Dolphins.

He said he will undergo an MRI exam on his surgically repaired hip to make sure everything is OK with it.

Kicker Nick Folk was perhaps the Jets’ most consistent player this season. He made 33-of-36 field goals and improved on kickoffs this season. He has spent four seasons with the Jets playing on one-year deals, making him a free agent again this year. Folk believes he’s earned a long-term contract.

“I think so,” he said. “I think I’ve done my part, but if that’s what they want to do, that’s what they want to do. We’ll see what happens over the next couple of months. I’d love to be here. It’s a great place to be.”

DT Sheldon Richardson on whether he believes he is the Defensive Rookie of the Year: “Most definitely. Most definitely. It’s not even a question.”

The Jets and DE Muhammad Wilkerson can now discuss a contract extension since he is through his third year. Wilkerson was not interested in talking about that, though.

“You’ve got to ask [general manager] John [Idzik] about that. I’m not going to talk about that,” Wilkerson said. “That’s something my agent will handle. I don’t have nothing to say about that.”

Second-year WR Stephen Hill said he will not need knee surgery. He was placed on season-ending injured reserve in December with lingering knee issues.
