Michael Munoz, 42, was standing on the sidewalk of the service road near 20th Avenue in Queens when an elderly man lost control of his Toyota Camry at around 2:15 p.m. and jumped the curb, cops said.
The victim’s brother said Munoz was a coach for a junior tennis league in The Bronx, but lost his job and was selling water by the highway to make money.
“My brother was a good man,” said Raphael Munoz, 50. “Not a bad bone in his body.”
The victim was rushed to New York Hospital Queens, where he was pronounced dead.
The 78-year-old driver and his passenger were also taken to that hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Police are investigating the accident, but cops said that no criminality suspected.
