Karl Childers, a simple-minded man, is released from a mental hospital after a lifetime spent inside after killing his mother and her abusive lover when he was a child. Now an adult, he’s taken in by a kind-hearted woman and her son, only to watch the cruelty replayed by the woman’s crude and abusive boyfriend.

A Hawaiian land owner (George Clooney) takes his daughters to Oahu in an attempt to reconnect with them after an accident leaves his wife on life support. No, wifey’s not what he thought she was, and this charming Alexander Payne-penned Oscar winner isn’t what you expect this movie to be either. Just terriffic! Also stars Shailene Woodley and Nick Krause.
