First woman to have successful uterus transplant is pregnant

A Turkish woman who was the first person ever to receive a successful uterus transplant is now hoping to be a miracle mom — she’s pregnant.

Derya Sert, 22, was born without a womb and received one from a deceased donor in August 2011.

“With God’s help, we will have a baby thanks to this process,’’ her husband, Mustafa Sert, 35, said after the transplant surgery.

Her doctor said in a statement this week that Sert was implanted with an embryo — using one of her eggs and her husband’s sperm — at Akdeniz University Hospital in Antalya, Turkey, and is almost two weeks pregnant.
