Dolphin spotted swimming in the East River

New York really does attract all manner of tourists.

A playful bottlenose dolphin was spotted splashing around the East River between 94th and 103rd streets yesterday.

The creature was chasing other fish and avoiding boats.

“It appears to be doing what a dolphin would normally be doing. It’s swimming around the water, going after food,’’ said Riverhead Foundation Executive Director Rob DiGiovanni.

The last marine mammal sighting ended in tragedy, when a sick dolphin died in the Gowanus canal.

Biologists who checked it out yesterday said they have concerns — and will examine it again today.

“He’s not a healthy animal, but he’s not at death’s door. He’s thin, but he’s swimming very well,’’ said Kim Durham, the rescue-program director at the Riverhead Foundation.
