NHL deputy commish says talks might not take break

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly today indicated the CBA negotiations may not be taking a two-week vacation as commissioner Gary Bettman mentioned to the union last weekend.

“It wasn’t really a suggestion as much as an idea,” Daly wrote in an email to The Post. “I think the point is at this stage we don’t have any new proposals or ideas. Unless they (union negotiators) do, I’m not sure what we will be meeting about.”

Rangers Ryan Callahan and Marian Gaborik today ripped the idea of a two-week break.

“Two weeks is a waste of time. It’s something we shouldn’t be doing,” Callahan said at a charity event on Staten Island. “We want to negotiate. Why take a two-week break. It doesn’t make any sense.”

“I don’t think that gets us anywhere,” Gaborik said. “We have to get back to the table and get a deal done.”
