Call it “The Manny Team.”
50 Cent, a longtime friend of Floyd Mayweather Jr., is about to embark on a joint promotional venture with Mayweather’s biggest rival Manny Pacquiao, according to a report by BoxingScene.com.
The Queens-born rap mogul and movie star initially started a company called TMT Promotions – “The Money Team” in honor of Mayweather’s nickname – but that has already closed shop without making any impact. 50 Cent signed four solid fighters, got a promoter’s license in New York and applied for one in Las Vegas.
Mayweather was initially discussed as a partner in the new company with Pacquiao and 50 Cent, but now it appears that won’t happen according to the report. The site says that there have been rumors of friction between Mayweather and 50 Cent, but those have been unconfirmed.
“50 Cent and I have been talking now for maybe the last two months,” Pacquiao’s advisor Michael Koncz said. “They approached us with the idea to form a promotional company. Initially it was going to be 50 Cent, Manny and Floyd. But right now I don’t think Floyd is going to be a part of it.”
Mayweather and Pacquiao are the two biggest draws in boxing, but the pair’s representatives can’t seem to come to terms with a fight between them. Mayweather has accused Pacquiao of performance-enhancing drug use.
Pacquiao will meet Juan Manuel Marquez in December for the fourth time. He has already beaten Marquez twice and the other fight was a draw. Mayweather was released from a prison in August after two months following a domestic abuse conviction.
