POST GAMES TO WATCH: June 4-June 10

The Post’s high school staff looks ahead to the most intriguing matchups in boys basketball and girls basketball for the week of June 4 through June 10.

BASEBALL

Fordham Prep vs. St. Joseph by the Sea, CHSAA Class AA elimination game (Tuesday, 6 p.m. @ St. John’s University)

These two teams met Wednesday in a classic battle with Fordham Prep gutting out a 3-2, nine-inning win that sent the Rams on their way in the winner’s bracket. Sea has fought back to get a game away from the finals, where it’ll have a chance to get revenge with ace Brian Russell on the mound. Fordham Prep will likely counter with Sean McNamara, its own ace.

South Bronx vs. Queens Vocational Tech, PSAL Class B final (Friday, 4 p.m. @ MCU Park)

After a relatively stress-free postseason for each team, the semifinals were a stiff test. Third-seeded Queens Vocational Tech knocked off No. 15 Transit Tech, 4-2, while No. 1 South Bronx rallied for a 9-8, eight-inning win over No. 5 Washington Irving. Queens Vo will be looking for its second title since 2007 while South Bronx has never won it all, though it reached the championship game in 2001, when it lost to Beacon.

Grand Street Campus vs. George Washington, PSAL Class A final (Friday, 7 p.m. @ MCU Park)

The PSAL Class A semifinals were a flop; the final has all the making of a classic. Second-seeded Grand Street Campus and No. 4 George Washington each swept through their foes over the weekend, flexing their muscles in dominant victories. They met in the preseason, playing to a 3-all tie. They both feature potent lineups and boast plenty of pitching. The biggest difference is experience. GW won the title last year while Grand Street is making its first-ever appearance in the title game.

CHSAA Class AA finals (Friday, TBA @ St. John’s University)

It all comes down to this, Friday night under the lights at St. John’s University’s Jack Kaiser Stadium. Iona Prep is already in courtesy of Joe Finnegan’s gem and Vinny DeMaria’s game-saving play at shortstop Sunday night against Fordham Prep. It will either get a rematch with Fordham Prep or meet St. Joseph by the Sea, which won the title two years ago.
