Werth told the Washington Post he was taunted by Phillies fans at Nationals Park on Sunday night after be broke his wrist trying to make a catch.

“After walking off the field feeling nauseous knowing my wrist was broke and hearing Philly fans yelling ‘You deserve it,’ and, ‘That’s what you get,’ I am motivated to get back quickly and see to it personally those people never walk down Broad Street in celebration again,” Werth, who is expected to miss 12 weeks, texted to the paper.

Werth was a key piece of the Phillies’ 2008 World Series winning team, but signed a seven-year, $126 million deal with the Nationals before the 2011 season.

It was the second controversy involving the two teams stemming for Sunday’s game. Earlier in the day Nationals GM Mike Rizzo called Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels “gutless” and “fake tough” for throwing at Washington prospect Bryce Harper. Hamels would be suspended five games for the incident.
