Softball roundup: Quinones powers Spellman past St. Catharine

It was a big day for Victoria Quinones.

The Spellman senior went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Pilots to an 8-7 win over visiting St. Catharine in CHSAA Bronx/Westchester softball on Friday.

Bianca Richards went 2-for-2 with an RBI double and Tiffany Rondon was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. The senior also struck out five in the win for Spellman (5-2)

“Victoria has felt she hasn’t been doing so well as of late and she was extremely determined to contribute offensively today,” Spellman coach Brendan McCarrick said.

CHSAA BROOKLYN/QUEENS AA

Fontbonne Hall 12, Christ the King 11: Maria Randazo collected two hits and four RBIs and Ariana Dillon hit her first career home run for Fontbonne (5-4). Christina Calascione added two hits and two RBIs. Christ the King is 0-9.

PSAL CLASS A

Stuyvesant 11, Hunter 5: Morgan Higgins allowed eight hits, two earned runs and struck out seven for Stuyvesant (9-1) in Manhattan A. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored. Miranda Kalish had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Hunter is 5-5.

Manhattan Center 6, LaGuardia 5: Yen Pham went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Manhattan Center (6-4) in Manhattan A. Idaysha Quinones collected two hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Vienly Cabrera scored three times. LaGuardia is 3-7

Telecom 10, New Utrecht 0: Cristina Morales scattered four hits over five innings, struck out three and walked none for Telecom (10-1) in Brooklyn A. She was also 3-for-3 with three runs scored and drove in two. Susan Gutekunst had three hits, a run scored and two RBIs. New Utrecht is 4-7.

IVY LEAGUE

Horace Mann 20, Trinity 1: Cara Annunziata went 3-for-4 with two home runs, seven RBIs and four runs scored to lead Mann (5-2). Ashley Gerber was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI and Jamie Gropper, Kaitlyn Puglia and Paige McMahon all had home runs.

PSAL CLASS B

Frank Sinatra 17, Robert Wagner 2: Chelsea Zic had two hits, including a double and four RBIs, for Frank Sinatra (11-0) in Queens B I. Bianca Picarelli collected two hits, three runs scored and an RBI and Breana Taphouse had a hit, three runs scored and an RBI. Deborah Witthauer allowed one earned run on four hits and struck out 10. Wagner is 1-9.

FDR 30, John Dewey 2: Giovana Rosado collected two hits and five runs scored for FDR (6-3) in Brooklyn B-I. Sabrina Escoto allowed two runs, no hits and struck out four and collected two RBIs and four runs scored at the plate. Dewey is 3-6.

Richard Green 16, Martin Luther King 6: Essence Nivens went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored for Richard Green (3-7) in Manhattan B. Elizabeth Taveras had two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs and Fraymec Alvarado allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out eight. MLK is 3-6.

Louis Brandeis 13, HS for Economics 8: Tieyika Ortiz went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs for Louis Brandeis (3-7) in Manhattan B-I. Linabel Tavarez added two hits and a runs scored. HS for Economics is 6-6.

John F. Kennedy 21, Banana Kelly 0: Amely Del Rosario went 2-for-3 with four runs scored and four RBIs for Kennedy (6-4 Bronx B-I). Naomi Jimenez had two hits, a run scored and four RBI and Yaribel Genao went 1-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Banana Kelly is 1-8 in Bronx B-III.
