CHSAA/Private baseball roundup: Fieldston slugs Hackley, now alone in first

Kevin Fich homered, had three hits and three RBIs and Matt Nunez followed with three hits and five RBis as Fieldston topped Hackley, 14-7, on Monday in Ivy Prep League baseball.

Courtesy of Horace Mann’s 10-0 loss to Poly Prep, the Eagles now sit alone atop the Ivy League, a game north of Poly Prep and Horace Mann. Matt Stadler went four innings for the victory and Jake Turtel tossed three innings of solid relief for Fieldston (5-0, 3-0), which takes on Riverdale Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.

Riverdale 12, Collegiate 12: The game was called due to darkness and will resume May 4, the day of the two teams’ next scheduled contest. Collegiate (1-3, 1-2) next faces Trinity Wednesday at 4 p.m. on Randall’s Island while Riverdale (1-3, 1-2) visits rival Fieldston Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.

Dalton 7, Trinity 6: Nick Dyja and Dexter Zimet each had two hits, Zach Rosh drove in two runs, Zimet picked up the win with four strong innings and Isaac Shapiro earned the save for Dalton (3-2, 2-2), which visits Horace Mann Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. Trinity is now 0-5 overall, 0-4 in league and meets Collegiate Wednesday on Randall’s Island at 4 p.m.

CHSAA CLASS AA

Xaverian 5, Monsignor McClancy 0: Frank Kaplan tossed a one-hitter with two strikeouts and Eric Kalman had an RBI for Xaverian (4-0), which was flawless in the field. McClancy is 1-2.

Bishop Ford 5, Holy Cross 2: Helbert Estevez gave up no earned runs on three hits and struck out four in five innings for Ford (2-1). Will Garces went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBs and Mark Maguire and Matt Caraballo both had RBI doubles. Cross is 2-4.

Moore Catholic 10, Regis 4: Matt DiOrio went 1-for-2 with four RBIs and Anthony LoBello had two hits for Moore (3-0 ‘AA’) on Sunday. Lobello gave up just two runs on six hits and four walks with five strikeouts in six innings. Julien Muchuca, Chris King and Peter Finch each had two hits apiece for Regis (1-2).

ACIS

Packer Collegiate 6, Long Island Lutheran 5: Nick Morton had two hits and three RBIs, Henry Butler doubled and drove in two runs, Mike Savino scored three runs and Butler went 5-1/3 innings for the win for Packer (6-2, 1-2), which hosts Browning on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. John Martone had two hits, scored twice and added an RBI for LuHi.

NON-LEAGUE

Regis 7, Canisius (Buffalo) 0: Matt Dieffenbach gave up just three hits and a walk in seven shutout innings for Regis at the Tampa Jesuit Easter Tournament on Friday. Julien Muchuca, Chris King and Mike Woods each had two RBIs apiece.

Berkeley Carroll 11, Browning 1: Anthony Spina homered, had two hits and three RBIs, Richie Palacios and Will Reagan each had two RBIs and Joe Rosario got the win for Berkeley Carroll (9-0), which visits Staten Island Academy Thursday at 4:15 p.m.

Staten Island Academy 11, Dwight 0: James Morisano had two hits and five RBIs and Alex Morisano had two hits and scored three runs for Staten Island Academy (3-2, 2-1), which meets Berkeley Carroll Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
