SHEAR GENIUS: Get the wool pulled over your eyes (in a good way) at Philipsburg Manor’s annual Sheep-to-Shawl event, where kids can see what sheep-shearing day was like on a real 18th-century farm. After the animals’ haircuts, families will help to pick, sort and dye wool, then spin it into yarn, all with the help of “interpreters” in period costumes, as storyteller Jonathan Kruk sets the scene. Saturdays and Sundays through April 22, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., $14 for adults, $8 for kids. 381 N. Broadway (Route 9), Sleepy Hollow, NY; 914-631-8200, hudsonvalley.org

FLY AWAY: Based on Patricia Polacco’s renowned YA novel, “The Butterfly” tells the timeless tale of two young girls (one Catholic, one Jewish) who befriend each other during the Nazi occupation of France. Saturdays and Sundays through April 29, 2 and 4 p.m. $15, $10 for kids 12 and under. Mint Theater Company, 311 W. 43rd St., between Eighth and Ninth avenues; 212-573-8791, makingbookssing.org

GARDEN PARTY: Take advantage of one of the most colorful springs we’ve had in years at Wave Hill, where the Family Art Project series “Go Wild Garden” will give kids the opportunity to sketch beautiful blooms and use recycled products to help create a giant wall relief. Today and tomorrow, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., free. 249th Street at Independent Avenue, The Bronx; 718-549-3200, wavehill.org

TOMORROW
