Maryland Mega Millions winner comes forward, will remain anonymous

BALTIMORE — A winner in the $656 million Mega Millions drawing has come forward to claim a third of the prize in Maryland.

But the identity of the person, who stepped forward Monday to claim their winnings, is still a mystery.

The winning ticket-holder will reportedly remain anonymous, although the Maryland Lottery will hold a news conference at 8:00am local time Tuesday to share a “storyline” about the winner, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Winning tickets in the record-breaking lottery were also sold in Illinois and Kansas. Each winning ticket is worth about $213 million before taxes, with the after-taxes payout in excess of $100 million.

An anonymous winner collected the payout in Kansas last week but the Illinois share of the prize has yet to be claimed.

Monday’s news comes after much confusion and speculation about who purchased the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven in Milford Mill.

A McDonald’s employee previously insisted she was the lucky ticket-holder, but had not produced the ticket and told reporters she did not know where it was.

But myFOXdc.com learned from sources that the winner is not Mirlande Wilson, a Haitian immigrant and mother of seven employed at McDonald’s in Milford Mill.

Last week she offered different explanations as to where her ticket was, saying that she stashed it at work, then saying days later that she lost the ticket. The New York Post reported that Wilson was fighting over the ticket with her co-workers who claimed it had been bought as part of a workplace pool.
