Cops shoot knife-wielding woman after she lunged at officer

Police shot and wounded a knife-wielding, deranged woman in The Bronx today after she lunged at an officer today, sources said.

Joann Clarke, 42, reportedly began stabbing herself in the stomach with a carving and a steak knife in her boyfriend’s apartment on Lasalle Avenue near Hollywood Avenue after a fight between the pair, cops said.

“He called the ambulance because she was stabbing herself and trying to harm herself,” said Patty, a family friend who declined to give her last name. “They don’t fight a lot. This is shocking.”

Cops responded after 9:40 a.m., and Clarke allegedly tossed one knife at an officer, who pulled out his gun, police said.

Clarke’s boyfriend struck the cop’s hand with the gun, causing the officer to shoot the floor, authorities said.

“He knocked the gun to the ground,” Patty said. “He was shaken. He was almost in tears when he came out. It’s terrible.”

Clarke then lunged at the officer with the other knife, who fired at her, shooting her in the right thigh, cops said.

EMS rushed the disturbed woman to Jacobi Medical Center in stable condition, authorities said. The officer was also taken there for psychological trauma.
