A compromise law allowing authorities to take DNA from anyone convicted of virtually any crime in New York state is expected to be approved by the Legislature, sources said.
The plan would double the state’s DNA database.
Over 16 years, the database has helped police identify suspects in 12,000 cases and get more than 2,800 convictions, and has exonerated 27 people wrongly convicted.
