PSAL boys basketball playoff roundup: Hayes leads QHST past East Harlem

Isaiah Hayes poured in 21 points and hauled in 10 rebounds and Denzel Thomas had 18 points and 13 rebounds as No. 24 Queens HS of Teaching knocked off 41st-seeded East Harlem Pride, 79-62, in the outbracket round of the PSAL Class A boys basketball playoffs.

Brandon Hughes added 16 points for QHST (10-5), which visits No. 9 Lafayette in the second round Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. East Harlem Pride is 9-8.

No. 34 Martin Luther King Jr. 50, No. 31 Columbus 45: Jerry Velez had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Miguel Velez added 13 rebounds for MLK (10-6), which meets No. 2 Long Island City in the second round Feb. 29 at 5 p.m. Stephen Bert scored 16 points and Xavier Norgbey had 11 for Columbus (11-9).

No. 35 Bronx Science 49, No. 30 Francis Lewis 45: Jack Edelman had 17 points and 10 assists and Jerry Henriquez had 12 points and seven rebounds for Bronx Science. The Wolverines (11-9) take on No. 3 Brooklyn Collegiate in the second round Feb. 29 at 5 p.m. Lewis completes its season 9-6.

No. 36 Harry Van Arsdale 63, No. 29 Far Rockaway 57: Marcus Royes made 10-of-12 free throws and scored 21 points and Raheim Lawson had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Harry Van Arsdale (9-6), which led 20-5 after the first quarter meets fourth-seeded Bedford Academy in the second round Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. Far Rockaway ends the year with an 8-7 record.

CLASS B

No. 28 Info Tech 70, No. 37 Henry Street 69: Isaiah Kemp scored 28 points and Terrell Watson had 14 points and four assists for Info Tech (11-4), which meets No. 5 Health Professions in the second round Feb. 29 at 5:30 p.m. Luidinson Hidalgo had 18 points and Davaughn Johnson had 17 points and 15 rebounds for Henry Street (8-9).

No. 27 NEST 57, No. 38 InTech 34: Saaed Jela Moore had 15 points, Ndriqim Kastrati notched 14 points and 14 rebounds and Andrew Barelli followed up with 12 points for NEST (11-4), which meets sixth-seeded Fannie Lou Hamer in the second round Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. InTech wraps up its season at 9-10.

No. 30 Morrisania 60, No. 35 East Side Community 55: Jordan Faison had 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists, David Perez added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Demitri Solis eight points, six rebounds and three assists for Morrisania (14-5), which visits No. 3 Newcomers in the second round Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. East Side Community ends the year 9-7.

No. 33 Chelsea 88, No. 32 South Bronx 71: Jonathan Taveras poured in 39 points and made 7-of-10 free throws, Carlton Swindell Jr. scored 11 points and Davis Parsons and Carlton Staton (nine rebounds) each scored 10 points for Chelsea (10-5), which meets No. 1 Pathways Feb. 29 at 5 p.m. in the second round. South Bronx finishes the year 9-10.
