Brawl over fight case

Defense lawyers in the assault trial of five men involved in a Bay Ridge bar brawl that left an off-duty firefighter stabbed ripped into the prosecution’s case yesterday, citing a reluctant, drug-addled witness, an attempt to alter video-surveillance footage and an alleged coverup of police wrongdoing.

Worse yet, one lawyer claimed in his opening statement in Brooklyn Supreme Court, DNA recovered from the bloody knife matched neither the victim nor the alleged stabber.

The defendants — who include four nephews of state Sen. Martin Golden (R-Brooklyn) — are accused of stabbing an off-duty firefighter and breaking the jaw of a Port Authority cop in the April 2010 ruckus.
