Esquire landed scoop from Newt’s ex in 2010

Sometimes, you can be too far out in front of a story.

Esquire magazine published key elements of the bombshell allegations by Newt Gingrich’s ex-wife, Marianne, way back in September 2010.

The second ex-Mrs. Gingrich created a stir on ABC’s Nightline last week by alleging that shortly after Gingrich said he wanted a divorce, he asked her if she would go for an “open marriage” — where they would stay married but he would continue his steamy affair with Callista Bisek.

Bisek later became the third Mrs. Ginrich.

In her Esquire interview, Marianne Gingrich did not use the word “open marriage” but discussed Newt’s proposal.

David Granger, Esquire editor in chief, was being philosophical, “I guess people have short term political memories, including ABC,” he shrugged. In its hype, ABC always was careful to note that what they were presenting was a “television exclusive.”
