Sanitation supervisor hit by thieves’ truck as they fled

A Sanitation supervisor was mowed down last night by two thieves spotted stealing curbside recyclables on the Upper East Side, The Post has learned.

Edgar Soto, who has been with the agency for nearly 23 years, suffered injuries to his right knee, left shoulder and left arm after the vehicular attack on East 61st Street between York and First avenues, sources said.

Soto was doing his rounds when he spotted the suspects at about 7:15 p.m. loading the illegal loot into a 1999 Ford boxtruck, sources added.

He contacted his superiors and a deputy chief responded to the scene, pulling behind the boxtruck to prevent it from backing out of 61st and onto York Avenue, sources said.

Soto was standing in front of the vehicle attempting to issue the occupants several summonses when it revved forward and knocked him to the ground, sources added.

The perps fled and Soto was rushed to New York Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The NYPD has impounded the truck and is seeking the suspects, sources said.

“This time it was a Sanitation employee, next time it could be an innocent civilian,” said Sanitation spokesman Matthew Lipani.
