PSAL boys basketball roundup: Whitehead’s 3-pointer lifts Lincoln past Robeson

For the second straight league contest, Isaiah Whitehead saved Lincoln from shocking defeat.

The standout sophomore sank a game-winning 3-pointer in the final seconds of the Railsplitters’ come-from-behind, 55-53 at rival Robeson on Thursday night in Brooklyn AA boys basketball.

Whitehead, who sank a 3-pointer to beat George Westinghouse Dec. 22, had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Ian Vasquez and Travis Charles followed with 10 points apiece for Lincoln, which faces Lone Peak (Utah) on Saturday in the Under Armour Brandon Jennings Classic in Milwaukee, Wisc. With the win, the Railsplitters (11-1, 7-0) remain a game ahead of Boys & Girls in Brooklyn AA with next Saturday’s showdown looming.

Denzel Wilson had 15 points and six rebounds, Mohamed Dansoko added 14 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks and Tyree Harvey had 14 points and five assists for Robeson (6-10, 2-6), which led by 11 at halftime.

South Shore 69, Transit Tech 61: Shamiek Sheppard scored 19 points and Wayne Martin had 13 for South Shore (10-4, 6-2) in Brooklyn AA. Richard Williams had 14 points, Fabian MacDonald added 10 points, five assists and five steals and Devonta Crumpler also had 10 points for Transit Tech (8-7, 2-6).

Thomas Jefferson 78, Grady 64: Jaquan (Son Son) Lynch dropped in 30 points, Thaddeus Hall followed with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists and Kareem Johnakin had 13 rebounds for Thomas Jefferson (10-5, 6-2) in Brooklyn AA. Eric Moore posted 18 points for Grady (2-6).

Wadleigh 72, Manhattan Center 56: Basil Harley had 27 points and seven assists, Louis Costen had 17 points and 17 rebounds and Lenny Kadisha tallied eight points and 12 rebounds for Wadleigh (12-2, 7-0) in Manhattan AA. Manhattan Center is 3-4.

Cardozo 66, Martin Van Buren 61: Kyle Credle sank five 3-pointers and scored 21 points, Ryan Yearwood had 11 points and Jermaine Lawrence had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Cardozo (8-2, 7-1), which rallied from a fourth quarter deficit, in Queens AA. Brandon Howard had 15 points and six assists for Van Buren (1-6).

Bayside 68, Flushing 48: Brandon King scored 20 points and Uzonna Akazi had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Bayside (10-4, 6-2) in Queens AA. Flushing is still winless 8-0.

Thomas Edison 78, Forest Hills 70: DeShawn Cann had 27 points and six rebounds and Jaleel Charles had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Edison (5-7, 2-6) in Queens AA. Forest Hills is 3-5.

Campus Magnet 55, Beach Channel 48: Grequan Carted had 18 points and Tarik Raynor followed with 17 for Campus Magnet (11-3, 7-1), which led 30-13 at halftime, in Queens AA. Beach Channel is 5-3.

CLASS A

Environmental Studies 40, Randolph 33: Jefferson Francois had 21 points and 23 rebounds and Michael Santana added 12 points and eight assists for Environmental Studies (5-3) in Manhattan A Northwest. Randolph is 3-5.

CLASS B

Teachers Prep 80, Maxwell 16: Jordan Stewart posted 16 points and 10 assists and Reatt Foster and Andre Menner (10 rebounds) had 11 points apiece for undefeated Teachers Prep (9-0) in Brooklyn B East. Maxwell is 2-7.

Clara Barton 41, Brooklyn College Academy 34: Jeffrey Mesine had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Anfernee Graham had nine rebounds for Clara Barton (4-5) in Brooklyn B West. BCA is 2-7.

Bathgate 56, Metropolitan 53: Albert Gonzalez and Ben Smith scored 18 points apiece for Bathgate (7-2) in Bronx B East. Metropolitan is 5-4.

Medgar Evers 55, Cobble Hill 29: Olusegun Ajayi had 13 points and Thierno Diallo had nine points and five assists for Medgar Evers (7-2), which led 33-6 at halftime, in Brooklyn B West. Cobble Hill is 1-8.

Banana Kelly 60, Leadership Institute 35: Malvin Nieves and Kelvin Perez had 13 points apiece and Jefferson Ramos had 11 points and seven assists for Banana Kelly (4-5) in Bronx B East. Leadership Institute is 0-7.
