MPFree: Canadian Blasts off at CMJ

Over the years, the Great White North has given us many famous, chart-topping musicians, including (but not limited to) Avril Lavigne, Bryan Adams, Simple Plan, Paul Anka, Leonard Cohen, k-os, Alanis Morrisette and Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach. Considering all that talent coming out of Canada, you could say that it might behoove you to go to the Canadian Blast CMJ showcase at Arlene’s Grocery tomorrow night (Oct 19), because that’s where you’ll find a heavy concentration of the most up and coming-est Canadian musicians.

Here’s the lineup (and a few free MP3 downloads):

8 p.m. – Synth-pop electronic collective Bikini. Originally from British Columbia and formed in Montreal, the act is now based right here in NYC. Check out their old cover of Feist’s “1,2,3,4” and Bikini’s own “I Remember Being Young” through this link.

9 p.m. – Indie rockers PAPERMAPS, hailing from the great city (and frequent NYC TV stunt double) Toronto.

10 p.m. – Rock band The Reason, who Milwaukee Brewers pitcher John Axford calls his favorite band.

11 p.m. – Electro-indie duo, Data Romance (pictured above) of Victoria, British Columbia. Download their darkly luscious track, “Spark,” right here.

Midnight – Toronto indie-rockers, Dinosaur Bones. Download their emo-esque track, “Royalty,” right here.
