CHSAA Class A boys soccer roundup: Mount beats Sea for seventh straight win

Anton Porter was supposed to attend Cardinal Spellman, but he missed registration. The star freshman landed at nearby Mount St. Michael and Mike Boyle could not be happier.

“I call him a gift from God,” the coach said with a laugh.

Porter had his 13th goal of the season and Fabian Leon also scored in Mount’s 2-0 win over St. Joseph by the Sea in CHSAA Class A intersectional boys soccer Thursday in The Bronx. Harold Herrera and Kwame Ocran each had assists and Colm Burke had eight saves to register the clean sheet.

“Everyone keys on him,” Boyle said of Porter. “There are two guys on him every time he touches that ball. It opens the floodgates for guys like Fabian Leon and Harold Herrera.”

Mount (7-1-1) has now won seven in a row after starting the season with a loss to Monsignor McClancy a tie with Spellman. The Mountaineers have what Boyle calls “bloodbath week” coming up – Monday against Spellman, Wednesay versus Salesian and Cardinal Hayes on Friday. Mount currently leads CHSAA North ‘A’ with 22 points, three ahead of Spellman.

“That game will probably determine who’s first in the division – for now,” Boyle said.

Cardinal Spellman 5, Bishop Ford 0: Marco Tutino and Matt Boicochea each had two goals to lead Spellman (5-0-3) in what coach Tom Cabrera described as his team’s cleanest victory of the year. Bobby Biolsi had a goal, Jurgen Kurti had an assist and Adam Biolsi made seven saves. Ford is 2-3-3.

All Hallows 2, St. John’s Prep 0: Reynaldo Abadia had two goals to lead All Hallows (3-4-2). St. John’s Prep is 2-5-0.

Note: The game between Monsignor McClancy and Salesian has been postponed until Friday because of parent-teacher meetings at McClancy.
