Car crashes into Bx. apt. building, trapping 3 people in wreckage

An out-of-control car smashed into an apartment building in The Bronx during rush hour this evening, trapping three people — including a little boy — in the wreckage, authorities said.

“I heard the bang and ran outside to help,’’ said Robert Jenkins, 44, who lives around the corner from the scene at 1809 Marmion Ave. in West Farms.

“The mother [who was driving] had been thrown into the back seat over her son, and the other passenger was under the car.’’

Jenkins said he and several other people rushed to lift the vehicle off the pinned woman.

“We all said, ‘Heave’ and got the car up off her,’’ he said.

The roof of the crumpled black Honda had to be sheared off by rescue crews using a Jaws of Life, officials said.

Once freed, the little boy, who Jenkins described as 7 or 8, “was complaining about his head. Then he looked at his mother and started crying,’’ Jenkins said.

“[His mom] kept mumbling something. Her mouth was full of blood. I couldn’t understand what she was saying,’’ he said of the woman who had a gash across her cheek.

The crash occurred around 4:58 p.m. when the Honda was hit by a red Acura as the Honda went through the intersection at East 175th Street and Marmion Avenue, a witness said.

The Honda then spun out of control and struck the outside of the six-story, brick apartment building on Marmion Avenue.

Four injured were taken in serious, but stable, condition to St. Barnabas Hospital, authorities said.

Local resident Virginia Aponte, 41, said her son, Ronnie, 21, was the driver of the Acura and on his way home from his job as a security guard for the Help USA Homeless Shelter when the crash occurred.

The mom said her son was taken to St. Barnabas also but was OK, although he had back and neck pain.

Justin Grullon, 23, said he was driving two cars behind Ronnie at the time.

“Luckily, I had brake time or I’d have been in this, too,’’ he said.

COps did not immediately suspect criminality.
