Pol in ‘sperm’ warfare

Forget speed limits — one state legislator wants sperm limits.

Citing reports of a sperm donor with 150 kids and more on the way, Assemblywoman Deborah Glick yesterday revealed plans to propose legislation to limit the number of children a single donor can sire.

The bill, to be presented when the Legislature reconvenes, would require sperm banks to maintain updated registries and make donors’ health information available to their kids.

The federal government should develop controls, said Glick (D-Manhattan), but “we cannot wait to address the obvious problem that has developed. There needs to be a standard of behavior for all sperm banks.”

But as Wendy Kramer, founder of the Donor Sibling Registry, noted, an estimated 22 to 27 percent of donors donate to more than one sperm bank.
