Cushnie et Ochs

Hooker or housewife? The white picket fence at the front of the stage seemed to hint at the former, but the booming hip-hop of Biggie Smalls and the giant stripper-style platform spike heels that every model wore broadcast the latter.

And the dresses. While the design duo has always been known for their body-con collections, this one featured over-the-top cleavage, triangular cutouts, and bondage-like straps on otherwise reserved dresses.

Yet the formfitting frocks were ladylike, too — all hitting just below the knee and full of old-fashioned structural details like peplums. (A few of those peplums were made of silver metal–a comment on the confines of marriage?) One knee-length, rose-colored dress seemed perfect for entertaining at a garden party … except for the wraparound halter that featured reverse cleavage.

Sweeter looks included some short, wide eyelet skirts with so much material gathered in soft folds that they bounced as the models walked.

Cushnie’s shows are always a creative standout, but this was their most cohesive, thematically and visually, in several seasons.
