Mel Gibson reaches divorce settlement

LOS ANGELES — Mel Gibson has reached a divorce settlement with first wife, Robyn, more than two years after their divorce proceedings began, TMZ reported Tuesday citing a lawyer for the actor.

Gibson, who has an estimated net worth of $900 million, had reportedly been negotiating with his wife over property investments that include a $26 million ranch in Costa Rica, a private island in Fiji and numerous properties in California and Australia.

Once both parties file paperwork regarding the division of assets, their divorce could be finalized by August.

The couple, who have seven children, filed for divorce in April 2009 in the wake of the “Braveheart” star’s affair with Oksana Grigorieva.

The Oscar winner welcomed a daughter, Lucia, with the Russian pianist in October 2009 but the two split months later.

Grigorieva, 41, accused the actor of physical assault during the custody battle for their young child, and heated arguments between the exes were made public in a series of explosive audio recordings.

Though Gibson, 55, maintained he did not assault his former lover, he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery in March to put an end to the media attention.

As part of his plea deal for the offense, he avoided jail time and instead was put on informal probation that includes one year of counseling and 16 hours of community service.
