Fifty unpublished photographs of The Beatles’ first US concerts that had been stored in a box for 45 years will be auctioned off here in July and are expected to fetch about $100,000.
The black-and-white snapshots, taken by then-18-year-old Mike Mitchell, record the Fab Four’s appearance in Washington on Feb. 11, 1964 — two days after their legendary debut on “The Ed Sullivan Show” — and a Sept. 13, 1964, performance in Baltimore.
Mitchell, who still works as a photographer, said he was able to get close-ups because of fewer media restrictions and looser security in 1964.
“It was a long time ago,” he said.
The photos will be sold individually at Christie’s on the Upper East Side.
