Two cops fatally shot a knife-wielding madman in The Bronx, police officials said yesterday.
Paul Goldreyer — who had a history of mental illness and a lengthy arrest record — lunged at the officers with a 6-inch steak knife after threatening to slice up his roommate Sunday night, said NYPD spokesman Paul Browne. It’s unclear if Goldreyer, 48, is even married, but he shouted that the roommate was ” ‘f – – – ing my wife,’ ” Browne said.
The incident started around 11 p.m., when the roommate called 911 from the apartment they shared near Pelham Parkway.
Two officers arrived to find the roommate fending off Goldreyer with a bar stool and demanded that Goldreyer drop the knife.
“He lunges at [the cops], they shoot,” Browne said.
NYPD brass said the officers appeared to have followed procedure.
