Michael Douglas says he beat throat cancer

Actor Michael Douglas told “Today” interviewer Matt Lauer that the tumor in his throat is gone and he believes he is cancer-free, Radar Online reported Monday.

In an interview set to air Tuesday morning on NBC — Douglas’ first television interview since undergoing chemotherapy treatment for stage-four throat cancer — he said, “The odds are, with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I’ve got it beat.”

Douglas, 66, was diagnosed with throat cancer in August and completed chemotherapy treatment — which “really knocks you out,” he told People magazine — in October. Doctors told him he had a 70 to 80 percent chance of making a full recovery.

Douglas is preparing to play the title role in Steven Soderbergh’s “Liberace” and has also said he wants to take a trip around the world with his wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, and their children, Carys, seven, and Dylan, 10.
