NYC salutes nation’s veterans

New York City played host to the country’s largest Veterans Day Parade yesterday — with thousands of marchers walking up the concrete canyons of Fifth Avenue in tribute to the millions of past and present military heroes who served the United States.

An estimated 600,000 people gathered for the parade.

In Germany, Michelle Obama surprised US servicemen and women by taking over canteen duty at their base and dishing out hearty, home-cooked favorites like corn on the cob and mashed potatoes.

Vice President Joe Biden attended a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, where he told vets they were “honorable men and women citizens . . . determined to build a better future.”
