Week 9 Fantasy Recap: T.O.tal Dominance

I’ve already written about Terrell Owens in this blog this season, but he deserves another mention because he has been nothing short of a fantasy beast this season and has put together one of the most dominant stretches in recent memory.

Terrell Owens’ last five games have been nothing short of jaw-dropping, and he has easily been the best WR during that span. Owens has hauled in 41 passes for 618 yards and seven TDs since Week 4. To put that into perspective, Owens has more yards and TDs over that stretch than Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, Steve Smith, and Randy Moss have all year.

Owens has clearly supplanted Chad Ochocinco as Carson Palmer’s favorite target in Cincinnati, and he is reminding all of us just how dominant he can be when he is in a situation he likes (his first year in Philadelphia and second season in Dallas). Anyone who drafted T.O. just for kicks or to see if he could be good enough as a WR2 or WR3 looks like the Bill Parcells of fantasy football right now.

Seyi it isn’t so

I really have no words to say about Seyi Ajirotutu, considering no one outside of the Chargers’ team facilities knew who this guy was before three weeks ago. Half of the people who went out and picked him up this morning still have no idea how to pronounce his name, but they should, considering the numbers Ajirotutu had this week.

Ajirotutu, who was an undrafted free-agent, hauled in four passes from Philip Rivers (who continues to amaze everyone and should be MVP if he takes this rag-tag group of practice squad receivers to the playoffs) for 111 yards and two touchdowns. In fact, only one WR had more fantasy points than Ajirotutu this week (please look above).

So the million-dollar question here is “Is Ajirotutu the real deal?” Well, I don’t know. This week the Chargers played without Antonio Gates and in three weeks, Vincent Jackson should be back on the field, so odds are Ajirotutu won’t see the kind of burn he has over the past three games. Depending on your roster, he may be worth a look, but don’t waste a waiver claim or a ton of fantasy cash on him.

Top of the Hillis

The best Peyton this week was on the Cleveland Browns. Yes, you read that sentence correctly, Peyton Hillis outplayed Peyton Manning in terms of fantasy production. Hillis racked up a career-high 184 rushing yards and 36 more yards receiving for a staggering 220 total yards. Add in his two touchdowns this week and you have the highest-scoring fantasy player for Week 9. Here are a few fun facts about Hillis: he has scored a TD in seven of his eight games played this season (seven rushing, one receiving) and has topped the 100-yard rushing mark in three contests (including two 140+ yard performances). Not too shabby for a guy who had 13 carries for 54 yards and one TD last season. Hillis is a perfect example of how an early season pick-up can help lead your fantasy team to victory.
