Jets knock Lions QB Stafford out for season: report

The Jets harassment of Lions QB Matthew Stafford may have ended his season.

Reports out of Detroit suggest Stafford has a Grade 3 separation of his right shoulder and is not expected to play again this year. It was Stafford’s second game since suffering a Grade 2 separation in Detroit’s opening-week defeat in Chicago. Mlive.com points to a second quarter shove by Jets DE Shaun Ellis that knocked the quarterback to the ground while trying to get out of bounds as the first time Stafford felt pain. S Eric Smith would shove Stafford to the ground on a blitz later in the game contributing to his pain.

The final blow came on a sack by LB Bryan Thomas, where he tripped and sent the quarterback to the ground, landing hard on his shoulder. Stafford laid on the ground for several minutes and did not return. With Stafford out the Jets rallied for a 23-20 win in overtime.
