A Meatpacking District hot spot has pulled the plug on its mandatory 20 percent tip policy — just days after The Post exposed the presumptuous practice.
“We are pleased to note that, as of today, this automatic gratuity has been eliminated,” a flack for the Gansevoort hotel said yesterday.
The Gansevoort, which also operates a hotel on Park Avenue South, had been among dozens of city watering holes where “tips” of 18 to 20 percent had been compulsory.
“Moving forward, neither Gansevoort property will include a gratuity on bar bills,” the hotel rep said. Automatic tips will be added only for large parties and bottle service.
Under the old policy, Gansevoort added $7 to a $35 glass of Veuve Cliquot champagne.
