Former Yankees ace Wang finally gets back on mound

Remember him?

Chien-Ming Wang pitched for the first time since injuring his shoulder last July 4, while still pitching with the Yankees. Wang signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Nationals this offseason and Washington hoped to have him on the mound by June.

Instead, his first inning, a shutout one, for the Nationals came Thursday morning during an instructional league game. Nationals GM Mike Rizzo is confident they will get another deal done with Wang before he reaches arbitration, according to MASN.

Wang won 19 games in 2006 and 2007 for the Yankees and started 2008 8-2 before injuring his foot and missing the rest of the season. Wang came back for the start of 2009, but did not appear to be fully recovered from the torn Lisfranc ligament and had a 9.64 ERA in nine starts and three relief appearances.
