Getting ‘Medieval’ on your Sims

Hear ye, hear ye, EA doth planneth a new version of that most fantastical of games, “The Sims.” It be called “The Sims Medieval” and it be a new game set in the Middle Ages.

Okay, enough of that.

In the forthcoming PC game, you get to build kingdoms through either internal expansion or by conquering neighboring kingdoms in “T”-rated (most likely) bloodthirsty strife.

What makes this “Sims” game different from the rest, though, is that you create heroes that can then be used in quest-based gameplay. Want to spend all your time in the pursuit of fame? You can do that. Want to focus on the health and well-being of your loyal subjects? You can do that, too. Sample quests include finding the fountain of youth, protecting the kingdom against evil sorcerers, arranging a royal wedding and crafting a certain legendary sword. Each quest ends differently, depending on the type of Hero Sim you pick.

Every time you start a new game, you get to pick a new ambition for the kingdom and set off on a new set of stories. And, since it’s a medieval-themed game, you also get to control characters ranging from kings and queen to knights, wizards, blacksmiths and wandering minstrels.

A taste of what you can expect is below. “The Sims Medieval” is due in Spring 2011 for PC.
