‘The best film never released’ gets released

“Colin Fitz Lives!” a 1997 black comedy premiered at the 1997 Sundance festival to decent notices. But despite starring talent known names William H. Macy, Martha Plimpton and John C. McGinley, the film was never picked up and distributed to theaters. The reason, wrote director Robert Bella, had to do with the massive debt he’d incurred making the indie feature. (The debt forced him to live in a Manhattan storage space at one point.)

Now the film is finally getting distribution — although only on pay-per-view. For the next three months, the film will be available on Sundance Select. Find it on channel 1000 here in New York City. Does it deserve the title of “the best film never released,” as the San Francisco Chronicle put it? See for yourself.
