Long Island body may be missing Chinese kayaker

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. — Police are trying to determine if a body found washed up on a Long Island beach is that of a Chinese kayaker who went missing in Long Island Sound off Connecticut.

Police on Wednesday say the body, which was found in the surf in Amagansett on Tuesday, was turned over to the Suffolk County medical examiner.

Thirty-two-year-old Fengquan Guan (FUHNG’-choo-ahn GWAHN), from Beijing, was reported missing by a friend he was visiting in Milford, Connecticut after he didn’t return from a May 9 kayaking trip. His kayak was found two days later in Southold, on Long Island’s North Shore.

Guan’s family has offered a $5,000 reward for any information about his disappearance.

Suffolk police say Guan’s case is one of several missing person cases being reviewed as part of the investigation.
