Something to squawk about

No, you can’t play tag with my kids!

A mother Peregrine falcon made her feelings clear yesterday when city workers showed up at her nest to place metal tags on her 3-week-old babies.

Because falcons are an endangered species, the Department of Environmental Protection places the bands on newly hatched chicks to keep track of them.

“She was very aggressive, the way she should be,” said Chris Nadareski, chief of the DEP’s wildlife-studies section.

This family was spotted on a 14th-floor ledge at 55 Water St.

Nadareski carefully removed the chicks one at a time from the nest, brought them inside and placed the markers on them.

Then they were returned to their anxious mother.

“Buildings and bridges are very similar to cliff faces, which are a falcon’s natural breeding ground,” Nadareski said.

“They have adapted terrifically to city living.”
