Report: Draft could determine if Giants shop Osi

The National Football Post reports the Giants could deal DE Osi Umenyiora if they select South Florida’s Jason Pierre-Paul in next week’s NFL Draft.

Umenyiora is part of a log-jam at defensive end and said earlier in the offseason that if he couldn’t start with the Giants he wanted off the team. Umenyiora has backed off those comments some, but it does not change the fact he may find himself behind Mathias Kiwanuka on the depth chart again.

Pierre-Paul was a junior college transfer and played one season at South Florida before declaring for the draft.

The Giants will likely focus on filling the linebacker position after releasing Antonio Pierce, but there are no guarantees.

“I think we could improve our team at every position probably — not just linebacker, any other position,” general manager Jerry Reese said. “We are looking for seven good players who can give us depth or maybe be a starter at any position — not necessarily linebacker.”
