Embryos with three parents

Heather could have two mommies — and a daddy.

British researchers used DNA from a man and two women to create human embryos in a bid to eradicate certain genetic diseases, the journal Nature reports.

Called three-person in vitro fertilization, the procedure would help carriers of a rare genetic mitochondrial disease from passing on the disorder.

“What we’ve done is like changing the battery on a laptop,” said the lead researcher, Dr. Doug Turnbull.
