FDNY: Body found in fire-ravaged Chinatown bldg

Authorities say the body of an elderly man has been pulled from a Chinatown apartment building that had been ravaged by a fast spreading fire.

Fire Department spokesman Jim Long says the man was found on the top floor of 285 Grand St. just before 8:30 p.m. Monday. The Medical Examiner is to determine the exact cause of death.

Long says the man, who’s name was not released, had been reported missing by relatives.

The 7-alarm fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday and quickly spread to the roof before affecting three other buildings. About 30 firefighters and four others were injured, including two residents who suffered smoke inhalation and were listed in critical condition.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
