De Blasio blasts Paladino over racist e-mail forwards

Public Advocate — and Andrew Cuomo ally — Bill de Blasio is coming out swinging at Republican gubernatorial Carl Paladino over his racially-charged and sexist emails forwards, calling them “disqualifying” and urging voters to reject his candidacy because of them.

“The only thing more shocking and deplorable than Carl Paladino’s blatantly racist emails is that he won’t even fully apologize for sending them in the first place,” de Blasio said in a statement.

“This behavior would disqualify a candidate for the school board, let alone a candidate for Governor. I hope all New Yorkers, regardless of party, can agree that Mr. Paladino’s campaign and candidacy do not represent the values of our state.”

De Blasio’s statement comes less than an hour before he’s set to join state Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs and Comptroller John Liu for a “major announcement” at City Hall – indicating the Public Advocate will be stepping up his surrogate role.
