DVD Extra: ‘New York Confidential’ (1955) emerges from vault

Speaking of noir (see post below), Russell Rouse’s long out-of-circulation “New York Confidential” is making its first appearance on home video. June 29. Broderick Crawford, Richard Conte, Marilyn Maxwell, Anne Bancroft and J. Caroll Naish star in this adaptation of Daily Mirror columnist Lee Mortimer and Jack Lait’s racketeering expose, which later bcame a TV series starring Lee Tracy. The screenplay is by Rouse and his longtime collaborator Clarence Greene, whose credits include the original “DOA,” “The Well” and “The Oscar.” An Edward Small production originally released by Warner Bros., “New York Confidential” is being exhumed by VCI in collaboration with the rights-clearers extraordinare at Kit Partner films. Among other things, there are featurettes on Rouse and Bancroft; details here.
